Trash to treasure workshop

Tinap Green's inaugural training and livelihood program took place in the marginalized community of Kingtom, located in Freetown

Sierra Leone. The program's primary objective was to address waste pollution in Kroo Bay, a slum situated at the heart of Kingtom. To achieve this, we utilized raw materials sourced from the community's waste to provide training opportunities for its youth, women, boys, and girls.

Participants were taught various skills including tie and dye, paper bead making, weaving, as well as upcycling and repurposing techniques for tyres, pallets, and other discarded materials found within their community. These unique products were then utilized to enhance the design of public and private spaces, not only beautifying them but also generating positive impacts on the lives of participants while mitigating environmental pollution.

As a social enterprise, Tinap Green aims to collaborate with local artists, artisans, and social entrepreneurs on sustainable interiors, décor products and projects across Europe and Africa. Our efforts in addressing global issues related to waste management and unemployment have garnered recognition, including an acknowledgement from the State House for our design contributions to the DSTI outdoor working space using our sustainable products.

Moreover, Tinap Green has had the opportunity to showcase our business model and network through platforms like Freetown Pitch Night, leading to the acquisition of contracts with major corporations such as the Sierra Leone Brewery. Additionally, Innovation Axis, one of our key sponsors, provided us with a workshop space throughout the duration of our training program.

Looking ahead, our plans involve expanding this impactful initiative to various communities across both developed and developing countries, further advancing our mission on a global scale.

We received a Life by Design outstanding entrepreneur award in 2019
